Smile, Expert

Hi friends! If you've been following along with the MFT teasers for the past seven days then you know this is the magical time when all the new products are available in the Brand Spankin' New section of the MFT Boutique. Woot! Woot!

The design team has a little more inspiration for you though, with a recap of the fun new products. Be sure to hop over to the MFT Blog for a list of participating designers.

I focused on the Sun Ray Die-namics and created two cards. To me, the Sun Ray Die-namics screams for orange, which I'm totally fine with because I can't seem to stop using it lately.

On this pretty card I started with a Sweet Tooth card base then used the Sun Ray Die-namics to cut out the Natural card stock. I inked all the edges and rays with Kraft Premium Dye Ink, then I layered it onto a piece of Orange Fizz that I trimmed to the same size. I misted the entire background with MIX-ables Sheer Shimmer Mist and it's such a pretty effect!

I used the Fishtail Flags STAX Die-namics to cut out the Sweet Tooth flag, then stamped the sentiment from All Smiles using Hot Fudge Premium Dye Ink. I added a yellow enamel dot to tie in with the sunflower.

Speaking of the sunflower...isn't it gorgeous!!! I used the Sunflower Die-namics to cut out lots of layers of Lemon Drop card stock and Lemon Drop felt, which I layered to create the flower. I backed the felt layers with Lemon Drop card stock so I could bend the petals a little, plus it adds a nice element of stability to the petals. The center was cut from Kraft card stock then I added a Hot Fudge button tied with Hemp Cord. I used the Upsy Daisy Die-namics to cut out the Sour Apple leaves.

Check out the dimension on this flower...swoon!

On the inside I got a little artsy with the Abstract Art stamp set. I stamped elements using Lemon Drop Premium Dye Ink, Orange Fizz Premium Dye Ink, and Kraft Premium Dye Ink, then I added a sentiment from Doodle Garden Aloha stamped with Black Licorice Premium Dye Ink.

You'll need your sunglasses for my next card...hurry, I'll wait while you run and get them....
...Wow, that was fast! Thanks for coming back so quickly!

On this card I paired Pure Innocence Gone Fishin' with the Sun Ray Die-namics. I had this vision in my mind and it turned out just as I'd imagined. Yay! I love it when a plan comes together.

I started with a card base of Primitive White, then I set to work creating the sunny background on a layer of Smooth White. First I used my brayer (yup...had to find it then dust it off...) inked with Lemon Drop Premium Dye Ink and covered the entire piece of Smooth White (which I cut to the same size as the Sun Ray Die-namics, 4" x 5.25"). Then I created a mask by using the Sun Ray Die-namics to cut out a piece of plain 'ole copy paper. You may have noticed that the sun rays in this card are the mirror image of the sun rays in my other card...that's because I wanted to sun circle to be in the bottom right corner so once I cut out the copy paper I flipped it over and used the back side as my mask. Then I sponged Orange Fizz Premium Dye Ink into the open areas. When I pulled the mask off I was left with a yellow border all around the edges but I trimmed that part off and added a layer of Tangy Orange card stock instead. The sun rays needed a little more definition so I stitched the length of each of the rays and I love the result.

For the image, I stamped her with Memento Tuxedo Black onto X-Press It Blending Card then coloured her with copic markers. I created my own patterned paper for her shirt by stamping her onto a piece of Orange Fizz, then I used the small dots from Washi Patterns, stamped with Kraft Premium Dye Ink, to add the pattern. I used my black copic multiliner to extend the dock just a little, which was easy to do since it's just straight lines.

For the water I used the Wavy Edge Die-namics to cut out a strip of Blu Raspberry card stock and then I stamped a sentiment from Pure Innocence Gone Fishin' using Black Licorice Premium Dye Ink. I added the three dots with my black multiline.

The sunny background was just a little too bright so I toned it down with a couple of clouds. I used the Flat-Bottom Clouds Die-namics to cut out the Sweet Tooth felt clouds (backed with a layer of Sweet Tooth card stock) then I brushed on some MIX-ables Sheer Sparkle Glitter Glaze. So pretty!

On the inside I stamped another sentiment from Pure Innocence Gone Fishin' then added the fish-on-a-line using Orange Fizz Premium Dye Ink and my black multiliner.
