Rockin' Rollanda

I haven't played with the sketches in the Stamping Bella forum on Splitcoast for a long time, so decided to use this week's sketch, along with this week's colour challenge on Splitcoast (chocolate chip, riding hood red, pink pirouette).

I simply adore all the Kettos from Stamping Bella, and I've been dying to use Rollanda for a while now, so this sketch is perfect for her! I started by stamping Rollanda with Memento Tuxedo Black and colouring her with copics. I paper pieced her dress with some patterned paper from SU's  Candy Lane DP. I pencilled in the floor then coloured it with shades of light brown. Rollanda is cut out with rectangle Nestabilities and layered onto a scallop rectangle of riding hood red, then chocolate chip. I finished the image with some Stardust Stickles on her wings and her roller blades.

The card base is riding hood red, followed by chocolate chip, then the fabulous striped paper from Candy Lane. I used my new EK Success slim border punch along the piece of pink pirouette and added the sentiment from Stamping Bella

The card is already so linear with all the stripes and rectangles and the sketch called for another linear element along the right side. Well, I couldn't make anything linear work along the right side...I felt like it needed something softer. So I punched out some flowers, lined them up, and added some 5mm marble chocolate Bella dots to the centers. I used my Micro Dots again to adhere the dots to the flowers. I find I'm reaching for them all the time now because even mini glue dots are a smidge too large for most embellishments.

Don't forget about Bellarific Friday. You have until 5pm EST Thursday to submit your card to Emily via email for a chance to win some Bella Bucks. The only requirement is that you must use Stamping Bella stamps. Click here for this week's inspiration piece and scroll to the bottom of the post. Have fun!

Blue Shoe Mojo

Hey, say that title fast and it sounds like a dish on a chinese food menu! LOL!
When I finally sat down to stamp tonight at about 8:30pm, I looked at the colour challenge on Splitcoast (Not Quite Navy, Kraft, Baja Blue) and decided to make a card based on that and the Mojo Monday sketch challenge

I pulled out my Shoebag image from Stamping Bella cause I thought I could do a lot with the blues on it. Then my brain kicked into high gear...I've been wanting to give my Lyra pencils a little lovin', and wouldn't they show up beautifully on Kraft cardstock? Really...it was a question to myself cause this is only the second time I've used them. So I stamped the image with Memento black onto Kraft and coloured it with Lyra pencils, OMS and a stump. I did lots of layering and blending to get this result. I have to say, I'm quite pleased with it! I painted the bag with Angel Wings Shimmerz then added some Hero Arts gemstones. The image was cut out with circle nesties and layered onto a scallop of Not Quite Navy.

The card base is Kraft, then a layer of Not Quite Navy. The patterned paper is from the Making Memories Paperie line. I used just a smidge of Baja on the card...the little circles behind the white flowers from my SU Pretties kit. I finished off the flower centers with some shimmery blue jean dots from Stamping Bella.

Mmmmm...shoes....can we ever have enough???  :)

Let it Snow

I have to confess...I made a card to post today, and when it was all put together, I looked at it and thought "well, that didn't turn out how I had hoped. I'm not even sure if I like it". But, I'm always critical of myself so I decided to ask a friend what she thought. I told her to be frank (as a friend should be when asked for advice). She looked at the card and told me it had a nice bow. Bwah Ha Ha!!! That's about all I liked on the card too so back to the drawing board I went.

I'm quite pleased to say that I'm thrilled with my 'do over' card and I'm excited to post it! giggle!!!

For this card I looked to Jen's Sketch For You To Try and to the colour challenge on Splitcoast(taken with teal, baja breeze, ridinghood red, white) for my jumping off points.

My Big on Christmas set from SU was begging to be inked and I was quite happy to oblige.

I coloured it with copics...just basic colouring this time though, no shading. I doodled around the image cause it just seemed like it needed a bit of a border.

The card base measures 5.25 inches square. I ran a square of white through the cuttlebug Swiss Dots folder...doesn't it look like snow! The patterned paper is from the SU Ski Slope pack. I layered it onto teal for contrast and pierced around the edges for interest. I punched two scallop borders and layered them along the right side. The border also serves to hide the line from the embossing folder...it's not wide enough for the square of white so I had to do it in two parts.
I wanted to use a chipboard snowflake but I didn't have any that were small enough, so I punched one with my Martha snowflake punch and added a Bella Dot to the center for bling. The cute little snowman's face is popped up for dimension.  :)
