Happy Birthday To Me = A Gift For You

It's time to get sketchy with the MFT Wednesday Stamp Club and sketch 76.

Blog Candy Alert!!!

It's my birthday today and I want to give YOU a chance to win a $50 gift voucher to the MFT Boutique. Read on to find out how to enter...I promise it's easy!

Birthdays are a big deal in my family and my mom bakes the most delicious four layer chocolate cakes for everyone's birthdays. Growing up we even had money cakes (yup...coins wrapped in foil and stuck in the cake before it's iced). Now those were the days, when a quarter was a big prize!!! Well, as we grew up (I have three brothers) and went off to university, my mom kept up the cake tradition and sent birthday cakes to us. I'm totally serious...she'd freeze them and send them by overnight courier, and the cake arrived on our special day. But my birthday is in June, so I was always home from school and never received a cake in the mail until I was away at police college one summer. As my birthday approached I told my friends we'd have cake on my birthday and they just didn't believe me, but my mom didn't disappoint and my friends were so surprised!!! Thanks mom!!!

I'd love to hear one of your birthday memories, so to be entered into my blog candy giveaway, simply leave a comment and tell me about one of your birthday memories. And please pass the word on to your friends! Contest closes Sunday, June 17th at midnight Eastern. I'll randomly draw the winner on Monday. Don't forget to leave your contact info in your comment.

I used Who's That Girl? You Take the Cake for my card today. You might notice that I completely flipped the sketch upside down, and I also made it a square card. I used patterned papers from the Echo Park This & That paper pad, paired with Fossil, Bubblegum, and Hot Fudge. The Mini Monarch Border Die-namics was jazzed up with some clear rhinestones and I used the banner from the First Place Award Ribbon Die-namics for the sentiment. I added the cute flower which I cut out using the Flower and Leaf Trio Die-namics and there's some Hot Fudge Ribbon wrapped around the base layer.

Here are all the sketchy details:

There's a prize each week for one participant, chosen at random. You may use any stamps and supplies that you wish. Each week a keyword is assigned to the sketch, and this week's keyword is MFTWSC76. All you need to do to enter is upload your card to the gallery at Splitcoast and enter the given keyword in the keyword box during the upload process. After the deadline (noon Eastern on Tuesday) we randomly choose a winner from that week's entries and the winner will receive a $15 gift voucher. If the winning card uses MFT stamps, the participant will earn a $5 bonus, for a total of a $20 gift voucher!
Be sure to head over to the MFT Blog to view the entire list of design team participants...there's plenty of inspiration for you with today’s sketch!

Here are the Die-namics I used:

Happy Birthday to you!! I hope you take the time to celebrate it in style! What a neat tradition your Mom started. My Mom always made our special meal (and I continued that for my boys)for our birthday. Although I can decorate cakes, my boys (now grown) wanted cheesecakes for their special cake!

Happy Birthday to you my sweet friend! I'm guessing you don't have to look in the mailbox this year for your cake! Hmm, a birthday memory? There are TOO many to choose from - LOL. I'd have to go with when I was 6...my birthday is in July and my party was held in a park except it was the coldest, windy July ever and I was wearing mittens (will show you the photo - too cute!) and crying because my piece of cake had just blown off my paper plate! I still remember that! :)

A cake in the mail! That would be such an awesome surprise. :) My birthday is right around Halloween, and some of my most fun memories are of my costume party birthdays...we got to dress up twice in one week! It was the best!

Your card is gorgeous. I love how you flipped the sketch! I think I'm going to do that as well. Thanks for sharing and thanks for the chance at the GC! :)

Happy Birthday! My birthday was the same day as my Dad's. He let me pick the cake--always chocolate with chocolate icing! One year he picked out little gold sailboat earrings all my himself for me(we sailed together). He is no longer here, but I still have those earrings!

Very happy day to you. For my birthday my mom always made me my favorite - angel food cake - even though I was the only one in the family that really liked it. Now my wonderful stamping friends continue the tradition. celliott53@cfl.rr.com

Happy birthday. Your card is adorable. Love your Mom's tradition with the cake. I don't have any special birthday memories from my younger days, but my family suprised me with a cake and dinner on my 65th birthday. I am the one that usually makes the cakes and arranges the parties, so this was indeed a suprise for me. Thanks for the chance to win yor awesome blog candy.

Happy Birthday! Love love love this card. :) A birthday memory...hmmm...O I know! It was my first birthday away from home. I was away at college and my Mom sent me some goodies in the mail, but my suite mate was SOOOOO SWEEET. She bought me some new dance clothes (I was a dance major) and set them on my bed so that I would see them when I got out of class. :) It was one of the nicest, sweetest things. :) I still keep in touch with her today! :)

Thanks for the awesome chance at the AMAZING blog candy! I've wanted to get me some MFT goodies for a while now. ;)

The birthday memory that comes to me first is a general one. I have two boys and I loved that, at birthday parties, we had a group of loud, boisterous boys running around, having the time of their lives! That makes me appreciate the joy of youth.

Happy Birthday! Birthdays weren't a big deal when I was growing up. I had 4 brothers and a sister so money was tight. But this one year when I was young I came home from Sunday school to a house full of kids! It was a party for me!! I felt so special. even my Dad was there.I don't remember how old I was turning but I'll never forget how special I felt! Enjoy your happy day!

Happy Birthday! I would have to say that my last birthday was one of the best. I turned the big 4-0 & my mom along with my oldest daughter planned a surprise party. My other 3 kids & husband had no idea either so it was a surprise for all of us!

Karen, happy birthday to you!!! I love this card!! It is just adorable! Here's a birthday memory that I have - last year at school I shared a birthday with one of my students. He told me that his mom was bringing cupcakes for the class. When he brought them in, they were in the shape of a flower. I told him that it was really sweet but there wouldn't be enough for the whole class. He said no that it was for me for my birthday treat!! I cried happy tears! So sweet!! :)

Happy Birthday to You! Now I already know how fabulous it is to win big, and this is big, so thanks for the chance to win!!! Love this card and the great design. My favorite memory of my birthday....hmmmmm, it would have to be when I was five and I got that Raggety Ann doll I had been wanting for a long time. You know when you are five, a week would seem like a long time, lol. And I loved that poor doll to shreds, lol.

Happy Birthday! What a sweet memory and what a sweet mom to mail you a cake on your birthday. My mom always made our birthdays special too. We could choose whatever we wanted for dinner on our big day and I remember when I was about 7, I loved bacon, so that's what I wanted for dinner. My mom fixed me a whole plate of bacon. I loved it!

Happy, happy Birthday!!! funny that you asked this....a month ago, when we had a birthday party for my 7 year old son at Skate City, he asked if I'd ever had a skating party. Those are my fondest memories....birthday parties at the local Skate City rink! Since my birthday's in January, and we live in Colorado, there aren't many nice days to have a fun outdoor party....so I had MANY parties at Skate City...and I loved them all. Especially in 8th grade when I was "in love" with a boy in my class. I couldn't wait for "couple's skate" at my party....I was definitely going to ask him to dance. I remember that dance SO well!! What a blast I had!!

Happy Birthday to YOU! I hope it was a great one. Birthday were always a big deal growing up, with lots of slumber parties, and ice skating as my birthday is on Valentines Day. I continued the tradition with my girls, and even though I don't always see them on their birthdays anymore as they are grown up, I still try and do something special for them. My most memorable birthday was this one as this year I was sick the whole month of Feb. and into March, (my birthday is on Valentine's day). I had what I thought was the flu for a week and a half, finally went to the doctor and I had a ruptured appendix and had to have emergency surgery, 12 day hospital stay, and six weeks to recuperate. So I didn't do much birthday celebrating this year like I normally do!!! Didn't have a cake or anything. It will be one that I remember!!!

Happy late Birthday my sweet friend!! I guess some of my favorite birthday memories would be of when I was a little girl and had parties at home with my parents and brothers and sister. We didn't have alot growing up but my parents always made our birthdays fun with a cake of our choice and generally homemade ice cream, games, balloons and a few presents. Alot of times extended family would join us, grandparents, Aunts and Uncles and cousins. Hope you had a special day!

one of my most special birthday memories was my daughters birthday. I made her cake myself. veggie tales. Bob the tomato with Larry the cucumber. my friend has shown me how. it was alot of work but I was so proud that she loved it. She is 19 now but still remembers the cake I made and decorated myself just for her!

Great card, Karen! All of my birthdays hold great memories for me - mine is just 6 days before Christmas, so there was usually a snowman cake or a holiday theme of some kind. Even though my Mom made sure to celebrate my big day, and not combine it with Christmas, it still made it seem like it was "my" season. Hope your day was fabulous :o)
