Sweet Sunday Chillin'

It's time for this week's Sweet Sunday Sketch Challenge, SSSC111. I flipped the sketch to suit the image I wanted to use.

The last two Sundays I did springy cards so I thought I'd switch it up and go back to winter! In fact, I'm trying a little reverse psychology on Mother Nature! LOL!!! I've fallen a little behind on my Christmas-card-a-week but this one adds one more to my stash for Project Christmas 2011. This is card #11.

The image is Just Chillin' Snowman from Whipper Snapper. He's stamped with Memento Tuxedo Black onto choice snow white and coloured with copics. I popped up the hat, sign and heart for dimension. For the snow I did a layer of white liquid applique and sprinkled on some glitter before heating it.

I drew in a little frame around the image, a la Jodi, and added three light blue Twinkles. I love this effect! The patterned papers are from Echo Park's Wintertime collection, paired with blue bayou and kraft. For the snowflake embellishment I used a combination of MFT snowflake die-namics and my Martha Stewart snowflake punch, then topped it with a clear Bella glitter dot for sparkle.

Sweet Sunday Skiing Snowman

It's time for this week's Sweet Sunday Sketch, SSSC56. You'll find the sketch on Karen Giron's blog, The Sweetest Thing.

I know it's Valentine's day, so happy Heart Day everyone! But I'm moving on from the lovey dovey cards. Can you tell what inspired my card today??? The Olympics baby!!! They're in my home country of Canada and I'm definitely watching even though we are living in the US now. I'll give you one guess what sport was on when I chose the image for my card today...that's right...skiing! The moguls, to be exact.

Isn't this little skiing snowman totally adorable?!? I picked him up a few months ago from Whipper Snapper and I've just been waiting for the perfect opportunity to ink him up. He's stamped with Memento Tuxedo Black onto Choice Snow White and coloured with copics. I wanted him to shimmer like snow does in sunshine so I coloured over him with my clear Spica glitter pen. Then I added a layer of clear Glaze pen to his goggles and four Tiny Twinkles for his buttons.

He's layered onto Prism island mist light and the snowflake squares are Cosmo Cricket Jolly by Golly paper. I stitched them onto a layer of blush red dark. Then I added my fave winter embellishment, a layered ghost snowflake. Oh, I should say that this is also my Christmas-card-of-the-week.  :)

Sweet Sunday Snowman

It's time for this week's Sweet Sunday Sketch, SSSC47. You'll find the sketch on Karen Giron's blog, The Sweetest Thing.

As I type this we're smack dab in the middle of the first winter storm of the season. There are already a few inches of wet snow accumulated on the ground, and it has completely covered the trees...they look SO pretty!!! So I think this card is absolutely perfect for our first winter storm. Not to mention, my willpower finally ran out and I recently ordered a few of the adorable snowmen from Whipper Snapper. I've been wanting them for so long...I had a wee bit too much free surfing time on our recent vacation to Vermont, and these guys magically appeared in my mailbox this week! grin! :)

I stamped Just Chill'n Snowman with Memento Tuxedo Black onto Choice Snow White and coloured it with copics. I turned him into a Snowgirl though with the pink hat! I paper pieced the bucket with one of the patterns from my Basic Grey Eskimo Kisses 6x6 pad. Then I added the red heart and gave it two coats with my clear Glaze pen for some shine. I finished the image with some white liquid applique and sprinkled on some glitter before I heated it. I tried to get a close-up of the shimmery glitter because it's quite pretty IRL. Photos never really do a card justice IMO.

Snowgirl is layered onto Prism Blush Red Dark. Then I stitched the same patterned paper to some Baja Breeze before layering it onto the Prism Frosted Pink. The ribbon is Baja Breeze and if you look real close you'll see the ghost snowflake I tied to the bow with a button.

I think that with all the snow that's falling, I'll be Just Chill'n on Sunday...I feel a Lulu and hoody day coming on...perfect for stamping, or addressing all my Christmas cards...ugh! You already know I got them done early this year, but that doesn't mean they'll be mailed early (or even on time)! LOL!!!

So Glad We're Friends!

Here's a card I made using Jen's Sketch For You To Try. I'm still looking for sunshine here in New England so this is another card with fun bright colours.

The image and sentiment are from the Whipper Snapper set Sending Happy Thoughts. Anna Wight's illustrations are all soooo adorable! I stamped the image with Memento Tuxedo Black onto Choice Snow White and coloured it with copics. I stamped the bird a second time, coloured him, cut him out and popped him for dimension. The image is cut out with circle Nestabilities and layered onto a scallop square also cut with Nestabilities.

The patterned papers are from My Mind's Eye Just Dreamy 2 Dazzling line and the solid papers are various shades of Prism cardstock. The white card base is 5.25 inches square...see, another square card...I'm lovin' square cards! I stitched a zig-zag around the edges of the green and yellow layers for a little more whimsy.

 

You can't see it in the photo but I added some Christmas Red Stickles to the centers of all the white flowers on the patterned paper...totally cute!!! I made a banner for the sentiment. I think this is my favourite thing to do for sentiments! The green button is SU and the red ric rac added just the right touch.

Friendly Whipper Snapper

I picked up my very first Whipper Snapper set, Friendly Expressions, at my LSS before heading home to be with my mom and dad. It definitely won't be my last Whipper Snapper set though! I just love the sets illustrated by Anna Wight...it's a slippery slope! LOL!

It's been a couple of weeks since I've played with Taylor's Cupcake Challenge, TECC65, so I made it a priority this weekend. I stamped the flower image with Memento Tuxedo Black onto Choice Snow White and coloured it with copics. I stamped the flowers a second time and popped them for some dimension. I used my long rectangle Nestabilities to cut out the image and the coordinating scallop one to cut out the eggplant mat. I wanted to use my new My Mind's Eye Penny Lane paper because the colours are soooooooo delish. But I have to tell you, I was humming the Beetles song then entire time I was making the card...and it just popped back into my head now that I'm typing this post. :)

The bottom layer is orchid opulence...gag...but it works so well with the Penny Lane paper, then I stitched on the patterned paper. I used my scallop border punch on another piece of orchid opulence then tied on some SU eggplant grosgrain ribbon. I finished off the scallop border with some Tiny Twinkles...they add the perfect amount of sparkle! 

My dad's still recovering nicely in the hospital and I just wanted to take a second to thank everyone for your well wishes. I've told him that my stamping friends are wishing him the best. But, yesterday I found out the hospital has public wireless internet...yippeee...so yes, now I'm here with my pink laptop, typing this post {big grin!}. And, I've been finding funny videos on YouTube to show him too, so the computer is keeping everyone entertained.  :)
