May Flowers

April showers bring May flowers and that's the theme of this month's My Favorite Things design team creative challenge.

This is a monthly feature where we are challenged to explore our creative side using a specific theme, product, or technique. This month is all about flowers. Look for an assortment of flower filled creations from today's participating designers. Hop over to the MFT Blog for a complete list of participating designers.

I created two cards for today's challenge. My first card is a clean and simple birthday card. The layout is from the Seize the Birthday blog sketch 16.

I started with a Sweet Tooth card base then added another layer of Sweet Tooth (mounted on foam tape) and a layer of Kraft. I used the Plentiful Petals Die-namics to cut out the two Orange Fizz flowers then layered them with a Sweet Tooth button in the center.

I used the Flower Border Die-namics to cut out the strip Sweet Tooth flowers then stamped the sentiment, from Just My Type, with Black Licorice Premium Dye Ink.

I made this card with one of my sisters-in-law in mind because she'll be joining the 40+ club this year. I'm older than her so I'm allowed to tease about it, so I added another fun sentiment from Just My Type.

My next card came about after I watched a video on YouTube about colouring over micro fine glitter with copic markers.

I have to tell you, the photo does not do justice to how pretty and sparkly this card is in real life. Love the effect!!!

I started with a Sweet Tooth card base then added a layer of Black Licorice and a layer of Kraft. I used the Circle 1 STAX and Circle 2 STAX Die-namics to cut out the Sweet Tooth and Black Licorice circles for the image. Following the steps in the video, I covered the Sweet Tooth circle with double sided tape then coated it with micro fine glitter and burnished it well. I stamped the rose from Inspired by Flowers 2 with Memento Tuxedo Black directly onto the glitter and set it aside for a while to dry. Then I coloured the image with copic markers, taking care not to saturate any of it very much so the glitter wouldn't lift.

Along the bottom I added a piece of Pink Lemonade card stock which I stamped using the Darling Dots stamp set and Pink Lemonade Premium Dye Ink. I used the Faux Crochet Border Die-namics to cut out the Factory Green border then added a Sweet Tooth grosgrain ribbon bow.

On the inside I stamped the circles again with Pink Lemonade Premium Dye Ink onto Kraft...love the soft look of the pink! Then I adde a sentiment from Inspired by Flowers 2.

Don't forget to hop over to the MFT Blog for a list of participating designers.
