One Sketch Three Ways

Do you ever look at a sketch and think "I could do this, or I could use this, or even this would look great!"? Well, that's exactly what happened when I saw SC403 from Splitcoast. I had so many ideas pop into my mind that I decided to make them all and show you just how versatile a good sketch can be.

It helps that this sketch is rather clean and simple, so it accommodates a number of themes, embellishments, and images. I decided on lots of Die-namics and minimal stamping which made each of these cards quick and easy.

Let's start with Have a Great Day. The sentiment is from the All Smiles set from My Favorite Things.

I let the big flower take center stage. I used the Plentiful Petals Die-namics to cut out Kraft card stock then topped it with a Whip Cream button tied with Hemp Cord. The patterned papers are from the My Mind's Eye Meadow collection and I thought the blue needed to be brightened up a little so I used the Dizzy Border Die-namics to cut out the Whip Cream strip. I know the strip isn't really part of the sketch but I ended up keeping that element for each of the cards.

Next up is the fun Halloween card. I used the Spider Web Sentiments stamp set for the sentiment, inked with Memento Tuxedo Black and stamped onto Kraft card stock.

The patterned paper is from the Carta Bella All Hallow's Eve collection. I used the Halloween Charms Die-namics to cut out the polka dot ghost and layered him onto a circle of Whip Cream which I cut out using the Circle 2 STAX Die-namics. I layered that onto a Black Licorice element which I cut out with the small size of the Decorative Doily Duo Die-namics (say that name five times fast!). The card needed a touch of colour so I used the Picket Fence Die-namics to cut out the Tangy Orange fence.

Finally we have the Happy Holidays card, which happens to be card #31 for Project Christmas 2012. The sentiment is from the Merry and Bright set, stamped with Memento Tuxedo Black onto Whip Cream card stock.

I wanted to change the horizontal element a little so I used my Traditional Tags STAX Die-namics to cut out the patterned paper, which is from the Lilybee Designs Jingle collection. Then I added a strip of Sno Cone grosgrain ribbon. I used all three sizes of the Let It Snowflake Die-namics, cutting the base layer from Berrylicious felt, the next layer from patterned paper, and the top layer from Sno Cone card stock. The little felt star on top is actually from the middle of the biggest snowflake...cool!

Here's the actual sketch.

JOY

Today I'm sharing a quick and easy, clean and simple, Christmas card. This is card #30 for Project Christmas 2012.

Believe it or not, I did not use a sketch for this one...it's straight out of my brain! And the best part is, it turned out just like I envisioned it!!! Yay!!

I used the By the Letters Uppercase Alphabet Die-namics to cut out the "J" and the "Y" and I used one of the ornaments from the Christmas Ornaments Die-namics for the "O". The patterned papers are from the Lilybee Designs Jingle tiny tablet and I layered them onto Kraft card stock. I used the Double Scallop Border Die-namics to cut out the Whip Cream strip and rounded the two bottom corners with my corner chomper.

On the inside I stamped a sentiment from Merry and Bright and mimicked the layering on the front of the card. This is another card that's nice and flat for easy mailing. Have you started on your holiday cards yet?

Hello, My Pretty

Happy Thursday! I have a Halloween cutie to share today.

I used Pure Innocence Little Witch from My Favorite Things for my card today and paper pieced her dress and hat. The patterned papers are from the Echo Park Chillingsworth Manor collection. I had a vision of her using her broom stick to stir a cauldron of witch's brew and the Halloween Charms Die-namics were perfect for cutting out the cauldron. I added a little slit and tucked the broom stick in behind the cauldron. The text circle was cut out using the Circle 1 STAX Die-namics and the Picket Fence Die-namics was perfect for the Kraft fence detail. The layout is Unscripted Sketches #177, or at least it started out that way, then I flipped the sketch and moved the circle and changed the place of the accent to fit where I wanted my cauldron. LOL!

On the inside I stamped another sentiment from the set and added the little witch stamped in Memento Potter's Clay. The card stock layers are Sour Apple and Black Licorice on a Sweet Tooth card base.

Birthday Hi {MFTWSC91}

It's time to get sketchy with the MFT Wednesday Stamp Club and sketch 91.

I used You Move Me stamps and Die-namics to create this fun masculine birthday card.

The bright colours from the My Mind's Eye Summer Splash collection were perfect paired with Wild Cherry, Sour Apple, Lemon Drop, and Sweet Tooth card stocks. I used the Notched Border Die-namics to cut out the yellow strip for a pop of colour.

Then sentiment was stamped with SU Pacific Point, I used Memento Tuxedo Black (stamped off once) for the road, and Versamagic Thatched Straw for the exhaust puffs. I love the little scooter cut from Wild Cherry card stock. I also used Wild Cherry along with a patterned paper for the the Retro Squares element.

On the inside I stamped a sentiment from Clearly Sentimental about Birthdays and used the reverse colours for the Retro Squares.

There's a prize each week for one participant, chosen at random. You may use any stamps and supplies that you wish. Each week a keyword is assigned to the sketch, and this week's keyword is MFTWSC91. All you need to do to enter is upload your card to the gallery at Splitcoast and enter the given keyword in the keyword box during the upload process. After the deadline (noon Eastern on Tuesday) we randomly choose a winner from that week's entries and the winner will receive a $15 gift voucher. If the winning card uses MFT stamps, the participant will earn a $5 bonus, for a total of a $20 gift voucher!

Be sure to head over to the MFT Blog to view the entire list of design team participants...there's plenty of inspiration for you with today’s sketch!

River Boat Thank You

On Saturday night we were invited on a River Boat Dinner Cruise and I made this card to thank our friends. We had a wonderful time, met several new people, and had an amazing viewing point for the fireworks competition at Coney Island. It was a perfect evening!!

I used the ship image from Inspired by Travel from My Favorite Things and the layout is FMS53 from the Freshly Made Sketches blog. I decided to watercolour instead of using my copic markers so I had to dig out my watercolor paper, but once I found it I used the Designer Labels 3 STAX Die-namics to cut out the image panel. I stamped the ship with Palette Noir ink and set it aside to dry completely. The colours I used on the image were Memento teal zeal, Memento potter's clay, Memento london fog and SU soft sky. I used my Circle 2 STAX Die-namics to cut out a Steel Grey circle for layering and added a circle of rhinestones to jazz it up.

The background paper is from the Authentique Fresh collection. I didn't want to cover it up with strips of paper so I used the cut out portion of the Retro Squares Die-namics to cut out strips of Tangy Orange, Sweet Tooth, and SU sahara sand.

On the inside I stamped a Thank You sentiment from Thanks A Bunch and used the Solid Bracket Border Die-namics to cut out the Tangy Orange accent.
